My piece focuses on the Stonewall Riots in 1969 when the police raided the Stonewall Inn gay bar in New York City. The LGBTQ+ community resisted the police raid, hurling makeshift missiles – bottles at officers. This lead to riots that lasted several days. The courage shown during the riots inspired many individuals like John Chesterman to stand up for LGBTQ+ rights.
